GENE SIMMONS FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Operation Western Front, co-chaired by Warren M. Spitz and W. Brett Wilson, was one of the most impressive galas to ever hit Vancouver. Thrown to support the “True Patriot Love Foundation”, OWF provided gala attendees with a uniquely engaging evening of entertainment, starting with a dress code of military fatigues and camouflage! The highly impressive convention centre was converted into a giant military mess hall including a buffet style menu with the Chief of Defence Staff serving plates!

There were many great moments shared throughout the evening, including a gripping performance from Canadian slam poet Shane Koyczan, and a lively auction featuring KISS rock star Gene Simmons. Operation Western Front raised $1.5 million for military families and veterans in need. It was an extremely successful event with impressive content throughout, which we were extremely proud to capture onsite.

It was an event hosting great performances, clever laughs and emotional tears. Guest appearances included: Gene Simmons, Shannon Tweed, Peter Mackay, Laureen Harper, Shane Koyczan, General Natynczyk.

The SheepDogs Music Video

Shot over eight 16-hour days in one small studio space, and demanding hundreds of editing hours, this stop-motion animation music video was one of Spot Cinema’s biggest projects. Collaborating on the piece with Matt Barnes ensured amazing art direction, so our focus was on storyboarding, cinematography and the technical aspects crucial to bringing the story to life. Once the video was featured in RollingStone Magazine, hit Much Music and MTV, and viewed across the globe to awesome feedback… I think we all forgot about how many sleepless nights it took!

TekSavvy Brand Campaign Web Video

TekSavvy teamed up with Milestone and Matt Barnes to create their new ad campaign, which showcases a cast of characters that embody features of their brand. We were asked to create a behind the scenes web video that showcased the efforts that went into the project. With full creative control to direct each character for their motion spot, it was quite the honour to posses such freedom with such a big client.

Headrush brand apparel Inc. – makers of Life style and Mixed Martial Arts clothing – definitely boast a very sexy campaign for their brand. Lucky for us, we collaborated with Matt Barnes on the short brand film that definitely turned the Sexy up on this piece. With hot babes and big guns planned for the shoot, a late-night heist in a dimly lit bank seemed natural. With the release of the Canon C300 scheduled just a week before our filming, its filmic image quality and low-light capabilities up to a staggering 20,000 ISO sure made the ad video filmic.

Dallas Green LIVE MUSIC RELEASE

Spot Cinema was privileged to attend the 2011 Juno Awards Party to film Dallas Green, vocalist and songwriter for City and Colour and Alexis on Fire. He sports the modern-grunge John Varvatos, The Rock Star Brand, collection by Harry Rosen with a vibe to shake and sizzle his fans, friends, and audience. Lights, cameras, and loud guitar riffs roared in the hosting venue of Spoke Club on 600 King St. West in Toronto, Ontario, where Dallas mingled with fans, while we captured all the fun!
Dallas Green has been said to take the basics of each clothing article and twist them. His impeccable style flourishes in Varvatos’ dark compilations and rugged personality. We captured his live performance at Harry’s Underground Lounge at 82 Bloor Street West in Toronto. In a solo performance, he strummed some of his unreleased singles, such as ‘Fragile Bird’ and ‘Northern Wind’ from his newest album ‘Little Hell’.

Every year we schedule time to work on a personal project that challenges our technical skills and quenches our desire for creative freedom. Dinner with Jeffrey Danson is a comedy short that we produced, directed, shot and edited all within a week. Even with the endless hours of rotoscoping it took to create Jeffrey Danson having dinner with Himself – as three completely different characters – we achieved exactly what we set out for.
